Context:
The CKW Group is a Swiss energy company that provides comprehensive and integrated solutions for energy serving over 180,000 energy customers.
CKW offers a wide range of innovative products and services across Switzerland, including photovoltaics, heating technology and e-mobility.
Challenge:
Switzerland is currently grappling with various challenges, including surging energy costs and volatile renewable sources. To prevent power outages, the Swiss electricity system is working to maintain a continuous supply of energy. Adding to this, the increasing popularity of electric vehicles in Switzerland is putting added pressure on the country's power grid while EV drivers are looking for assistance from energy providers to lower charging expenses and incorporate renewable energy sources more effectively.
However, due to the regulation of the Swiss energy retail market, users are not allowed to switch energy suppliers. Therefore, parties need to find an energy solution that is not dependent on a particular supplier. Moreover, there are various brands of cars and home chargers being used by EV drivers, which adds to the complexity of the situation.
To address these challenges, CKW, which is actively involved in e-mobility business, required a smart charging service that could serve the majority of EV drivers while also supporting advanced grid balancing services that meet Transmission System Operator (TSO) requirements.
Solution and Results:
Jedlix provided CKW a comprehensive e-mobility smart charging platform that included a branded smart charging app with a range of smart charging services such as off-peak, solar charging, and Virtual Power Plant (VPP). Thanks to Jedlix's broad support of EV and charger brands, the majority of EV drivers in Switzerland can use the smart charging service. The technical aggregation and APIs of the Jedlix VPP made it very easy for CKW to include the portfolio of EVs with other assets it already was managing to provide balancing services.
This collaboration is a first in Switzerland and is designed to optimize EV charging based on user preferences. By promoting the use of sustainable energy for charging EVs, the partnership will also help advance Switzerland's NetZero economy.
"By partnering with Jedlix, we are able to optimize the charging of electric vehicles, which is crucial for the Swiss power grid. The expertise and technology of Jedlix help us to set new standards for the flexibility market of electric cars in collaboration with our national grid operator Swissgrid. This collaboration is an important step towards a greener future and we are proud to contribute to the Swiss NetZero economy." – CKW
